This Week's~ErMG! Moments~

ErMG!...What does Playtex have to do with Neil Armstrong?
“A spacesuit is made out of a flight suit, a Goodrich tire, a bra, a girdle, a raincoat, a tomato worm.”. ~From the book Spacesuit: Fashioning Apollo, by Nicholas de Monchaux~
That’s what a spacesuit was made from in 1969 when astronaut Neil Armstrong, who died this past weekend, donned the bulky, Pillsbury-Doughboy-looking suit of great engineering and design ingenuity to take humankind’s first steps on the moon.

ErMG!...For all you Poodle Lovers out there...

Let me introduce you to "The Venezuelan Poodle Moth"!Eyelashes like Gaga,Furry,Pokemon look-a-like! Seriously ,did this fella ride in on the Spacesuit above? Ladies & Gentleman this is no photo shop_as one Dr.Arthur Anker photographed this "critter" along with some of his buddies in the Gran Sabana National Park  (Venezuela). Now,we have a bunch of moths that come to our farm each year_should I ever see this one...I shall either A.Run like a bat outta Hell_B.Buy Dog food_or_C. Bear Arms(no really I couldn't hurt a fly!).Knowing my husband_he'd invite this critter in for dinner! NOT. Here's a look at some of his "Road Buddies"_ http://www.flickr.com/photos/artour_a/sets/72157612234565705/with/4207478815/

ErMG!...Speaking of Dog Food...be very careful  of canned goods you pick up while shopping & not paying attention because you're A.ON THE DAMN PHONE_B.TEX TING_C.ON THE DAMN PHONE! Stop it please. This arrangement was spotted at a local store_

Yes,that's "Purina Alpo Prime Cuts Dog Food" tucked in there with your basic chili and beenee weenee brands!Either it was a mistake or a sick joke! But be sure to add Tabasco_it makes everything taste better.Woof,Woof !

Pick up a can of this instead_for phone talkers while one is trying to shop...We are not interested in your phone conversations..Aisle 9...will need "A Cleanup"somebody just bought a can of...

ErMG!...EBay bans Supernatural Sales of Magic Spells,Potions,Hexes...who knew?

                                                    Hocus Pocus movie 1993

Dang, that means no more_advice; spells; curses; hexing; conjuring; magic services; prayers; blessings; Psychic, Tarot, Reiki, and other metaphysical readings & services; magic potions; healing sessions.”

Guess I'll just have to make my own..let's see..1 potion of Pinot Noir or Syrah(Shiraz) + a shiny crystal clear Bohemian Wine glass, add in a friend or two, make two turns to the left to get a second bottle = "Magical Whining"_Done & Done!

ErMG!...Public Service Announcement...Do Not take a Hike in Denali National Park Alaska, walk up to a Grizzly Bear & without the bear's permission start to  photograph within 50 yards while he's eating! You could be dessert.Sadly, that is what happened here:
http://www.twincities.com/news/ci_21412057/alaska-grizzly-bear-kills-hiker-denali-first-national?source=rss

ErMG!..Yet,another Public Service Announcement...According to an article in Smithsonian Magazine_(it is implied by Mr.Waters)_do not use Pink Plastic Flamingos aka "pink porn" for lawn decoration!

From the Smithsonian Collections:Plastic Flamingos c.1980

These tchotchkes were a hit in 1957_Sculptor Don Featherson of Leominster,Mass. second assignment at Union Plastics was to sculpt a fake pink plastic bird "A Flamingo". Post WW II _these babies showed up on every lawn in America's new "Suburgatory".There was a decline when they became reaaaaallly a sign of "tackiness".But like the phoenix_they made a comeback mid-80's_holding the distinction of being in the Smithsonian Collection of Arts & Culture!

The 1972 movie "Pink Flamingo"_Directed,Produced,Written & Narrated by John Waters(whew that's a mouth full)_ had nothing to do with flamingos. He just thought the name was outrageous! However,Waters maintains  that plastic lawn flamingos should be kept inside,“like pornography,”..pink porn!

ErMG!...Ladies how are we EVER gonna get people to believe we are serious if we are buying into the fairy tale movie "Cinderella"_ by purchasing "GLASS SLIPPERS"?
Marc Jacobs Transparent Heels look like glass.

DSW has partnered with Disney on The Glass Slipper Collection

But,of course_Mr.Louboutin has a limited edition "Cinderella Collection"..retail $6,400.00...yes that's American dollars!
Seems shoes and a purse $39K(from the Olsen twins)_ could set you back a tad coming in at around $45,400.00 + tax!All that for a Walk-About & a little something to carry your ID,keys_NOT money_cause you will NOT have any after this purchase...Just Say No!

ErMG!....take a look at the sky on Friday Night_8/31/12!

"My Remembrance of a Blue Moon"_In high school my brother sang Bass in a boys group.I sang with a girl's group_check out the video from a previous post_at a 2004 Class reunion_the original members of "The Fab-U-lous Bunchettes(1967) Ralph J Bunche High School. On that same program,I re-delivered my Salutatorian Address as I'd kept it all those years!
http://sagebookwhisperer.blogspot.com/2011/09/fab-u-lous-bunchettes.html

Now,my brother's group was practicing the most popular song at that time "Blue Moon" for an upcoming program. One evening after Dad came home from work_he's relaxing in front of the TV_Jr was practicing his singing part in his bedroom(door closed)...on & on & on_until my Dad in his very serious voice_never raising it_but_threaten Jr's LIFE if he sang that song one more time. The rest of us were hysterical with laughter, tears, couldn't breathe type laughter_finally Dad even laughed! Here's a clip of that song,so you'll understand.Remember the lead part is Bass_my brother's part!

What I didn't know at that time ..this was a racially mixed group, unheard of in the 50's & 60's!Unfortunately,after a couple trips down South on a tour_with separate BUT not equal housing,restaurants,taunts,etc _the two white guys left the group.

So now you know why my Dad threaten my brother's Life...bomb bah babomb abomb bahbomb bomb.

Hey,that's a Wrap on ErMG! for the week.

Signing off with  a Blast from the past_

                                  ~Peace Out~

Memorable Road Trip~Part 4:SeaCoast of NH & Maine~

Greetings Readers! Dedicating August to sharing some of my most "Memorable Road Trips" has stirred my Memory Bank.I shall continue to do so throughout the year. Today we shall visit the Historic Seaport of Portsmouth ,NH,travel to Cape Elizabeth for the Portland Head Lighthouse, shop until we drop at the Freeport Maine Outlet Village and visit another Uncle & Aunt in Boothbay Harbor,Maine. The Strawberry Banke Museum was visited at a separate time_but I decided to group them together since they're in the same area...Enjoy!

Part 1
Arriving in Portsmouth,NH beware there's a "traffic circle"(round & round we go)_ that may take some clever maneuvering to get out of...I panicked! Conquered my fears when my husband said_just drive like a Texan_yee-haw! So we made it out of the circle, checked out many of the "Historical Homes", i.e., John Paul Jones,Moffatt-Ladd Home,Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion & Gov.John Langdon to name a few. Finally, arriving at our destination "Strawberry Banke Museum". The first three photos depict the Summer_we were there in the Fall!More info at: http://www.strawberybanke.org/

I fell in love with this "Garden Seat"_told my husband to figure the blueprint out plus the "Colonial Garden Gates"_not shown here.I want this.He paints, builds stuff...creative man,he can figure this out
I'm sure.

That's me standing in the front in white blouse....why was my husband so far away?

The Port area....
John takes a look-see at the Portsmouth Naval Yard across the water...on a very crispy morning!

Native Americans(Abenaki & Algonquain) nations inhabited the territory of coastal New Hampshire for thousands of years before European contact. The first known European to explore and write about the area was Martin Pring in 1603.The village was settled by English immigrants in 1630 and named Piscataqua, after the Abenaki name for the river. Then the village was called Strawberry Banke after the many wild strawberries growing beside the Piscataqua River_a tidal estuary with a swift current.   Fishing, lumber and shipbuilding were principal businesses of the region. With Kitterry,Me nearby, home of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard...my husband had a warm feeling being all ex-Navy!

I first learned of this area via Black Historian Valeria Cunningham after a spot on her Radio Show in Concord,NH. She lives in Portsmouth,NH. Enslaved Africans were imported as early as 1645 and were an integral part of building the city's prosperity.Portsmouth was part of the "Triangle Trade" that made significant profits from slavery. She is co-author of a great book_below_I'm still in contact with her, lovely lady, read about her recent Honor... http://www.seacoastnh.com/Black_History/Black_History/Valerie_Cunningham_Accepts_Hero_Award/

Lovely day spent in Portsmouth_topped it of with some Fish & Chips at a local eatery.

Part 2
My husband promised me when we left Texas at the end of May 2000 that we would celebrate my birthday with a delayed "Birthday Picnic" at The Portland Head Lighthouse,Cape Elizabeth,Me_upon arrival in Nashua,NH! He did not disappoint.I guess he'd heard for sometime about my love of lighthouses and this one in particular! So,in June we decided to make a run up to Maine for a picnic at the lighthouse,a shopping spree & visit his Uncle & Aunt nearby in Boothbay Harbour,Maine. So here's the trip....The drive up as I remember it was so beautiful! We had tea sandwiches, tea sweet treats and a large thermos of my favorite_"Texas Breakfast Tea"_my own brand for my business,"Let's Talk Tea".Here's some photos and the webpage_check out the live Web Cam_ http://www.portlandheadlight.com/

The Portland Head Lighthouse_construction started in 1787 completed in 1791.Located at the entrance of the shipping channel into Casco Bay,an inlet to the Gulf of Maine.
I'm checking out the Original Fresnel lens(1855)_they used Whale Oil lamps prior to the lens.

Standing on the walkway watching the white caps roll in and out!

Sorry,that's my thumb....

Found John on the grounds after getting lost in time in the Museum & Museum Shoppe. He was ready to go!Sorry,Buddy.

One last look see......

This was so cool_I about lost my mind,I wanted to stay, never leave...you'd have to drag me away screaming and kicking_but John manage to change my mind by saying _let's go shopping....I gathered my composure, walked to the car and said "let's roll"! Whenever I feel the need to escape,I watch my collection of Lighthouses of America DVDs...I heart lighthouses.

Next stop L L Bean Outlet in Freeport,Maine. By this time we already had a couple pairs of Bean Boots_love them_still wear them, but Wow!_the Outlet was amazing!

Freeport,Maine_formerly a shipbuilding town was transformed into a shoe manufacturing town when Leon Leonwood Bean in 1912 started a shoe company in his brother's basement creating a mail-order business and the World Famous "Bean Boot"( a waterproof boot). Now,the whole town of Freeport is an Outlet. Living there must seem like a hugh outdoor shopping mall with some 140 shops,i.e.Talbot's ,Jones of NY,Coach,Polo,L L Bean(anchor),etc.. restaurants, specialty food shops and my favorite_"Wicked Whoopies" home of the whoopie pie..delicious! Although my husband was NOT excited about a $5_one scoop of Ben & Jerry's Ice cream...he talked about that price all the way back to Nashua!

Could NOT resist "Claire Murray's "shop.I love the creative genius in her items_especially the hand hooked rugs_here's an example_
A hand hooked Botanical Round rug

Lacecap Hydrangea Hand Hooked Rug

Nantucket Needle Work Pillow..
Home Accessories ,Handbags,Pillows,Place mats,etc...Visit her shop online here: http://www.clairemurray.com/

I reckon' we were "plumb tuckered out"! That's Texian Talk for exhausted. We managed to get our energy going again after a nice meal of Lobster Roll Sandwiches & chips and a little Chocolate for dessert.A tiny amount of Tea was left_we filled our mugs and headed for John's folks place. What a beautiful estate_walk out onto the patio to a body of water! Boothbay Harbor is located on a peninsula in the Gulf of Maine part of the Atlantic Ocean. His Uncle & Aunt settled there after WWII_he was a Retired Lt.Commander Navy Officer.

A view of the Harbour near downtown area.

Well, that makes for a couple of enjoyable trips along the Seacoast of New Hampshire and Maine! I so love New Hampshire,my second home state. I will continue to share "Memorable Road Trips" throughout the year.Hope "Your August 2012" was a Good one.......

See you on Friday.....Namaste,~The Sage Book Whisperer~

ErMG!...My BFF Joan of (Mad Men)_aka Christina Hendricks was spotted strolling Beverly Hills Monday in jeans and frayed jean blouse_BUT_on her arm a $23,980 Silver & Black Tote by "Isabella Farbod Barsum"...
Mmm,did Joan buy it or was it a gift OR a RENTAL? How would you spend $23,980? A couple more $ she could have purchased Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen's "The Row Backpack" tote/purse for $39,000.....Really? I need to start making purses yesterday!

Yet another costly little number showed up at a Downtown store in Syndey,Australia _photo compliments of my friend Zig who lives...DownUnder for the past 8 years!
Now that's what you call  an "Outback Kanga-Vu"! What's your guess on the price tag? Mine...a GAZILLION Dollars +TAX...unless I can get an offshore deal on the tax thingie..seems to be the way to go these days!

ErMG!...A beautiful work of Art...
Indeed,a Trompe L'oeil beauty...I love this Art form. My husband painted my Farm Kitchen Pantry door to look like a cupboard_even with a teabag hanging from the cup and a written journal open for reading....I heart him!

ErMG!..Finished the week off with another good movie ! Matthew "Home Grown Uvalde,Texas"McConaughey was awesome in this role. You need to see this,it's an edge of the seat kinda movie! The title might make you think "Abe Lincoln"gentle LawyerMan_nay,it's the ride, baby! No office for this dude. He does "Bizness" from the Lincoln C. while this song by Bobby "Blue" Bland plays in the background.."Ain't No Love In The City".

Until next Time...keep smiling!
Much Love & Peace~The Sage Book Whisperer
