I'm Embarrassed,really Embarrassed to say that this first ErMG! Moment happens to be in my home state_Texas!

ErMG!....New Speed Limit...between San Antonio & Austin,Texas...

Folks always say "Everything in Texas is Bigger"! Now the Lone Star State is going to be home to the fastest road in America. The unheard of speed limit _85 mph_a 41 mile stretch between SA & Austin_open for business in November 2012.

Wait a Minute...The research is clear that when speed limits go up, fatalities go up,” Russ Rader, a spokesman for the nonprofit Insurance Institute for Highway Safety told the Associated Press.

D'oh! It is typically used when Homer Simpson injures himself, realizes that he has done something stupid, or when something bad has happened or is about to happen to him. 

Everything is Not big in Texas as in the brains behind this Fiasco! But wait..folks will pay a "Death Toll"_price will be set by Nov.11!

(Note to my fellow Texas Drivers_85mph is not the new 110mph_since 85 is already into play in Texas).

Soooo,Korean Pop has entered America,filtrated into newspapers,TV Talk Shows, MTV,VMA,Times Square FlashMobs,Broadcaster Matt Miller's financial news show(Bloomberg TV)played the above clip_although it has no relevance to Financial News_

He's been dancing to "Gangnam Style" a lot at home and jokes that (Psy,The Rapper) did say on CNN that he wants to make people laugh even in the midst of all these global economic slowdowns, so that's the Wall Street tie-in!, etc..& now this..

ErMG!...A Sugar Orgy!
Since childhood,I've looked forward to eating my favorite Fall/Autumn/Trick or Treat Candy every year_

Candy Corn! The White,Orange & Yellow Flag_ from the country of Sugarland!

Facts_invented by George Renninger(Wunderlee Candy Company)in the 1880's,consist of Sugar,Corn syrup,salt,wax,Artificial coloring;20 pieces=150 calories,33 grams of SUGAR! Thank you,George. Now,Nabisco has created the "MOTHERLODE"_

Seems Nabisco has kicked it up a notch with "High Fructose Corn Syrup" & Hydrogenated Oil_the Motherlode of Sugar & Trans Fats.Think I'll pass on this one.

this brings the concept of OUTHOUSE to IN-HOUSE Dining_to a whole new level!Potty Training Deli-Style!

A Mom of twins in Lehi,Utah while dining at a Deli had her twins_pants down_sitting on Potty Trainers NOT Boosters_at the table! I am "Outraged" that she was bold enough to do this,that Management did NOT notice_that she was NOT thrown out of the Deli_pots & all! Imagine,you're enjoying your Deli-Sammy & chips_while the table next to you has twins taking a BM! I think the Health Department should be notified and a citation should be given to this crazy woman!

ErMG!...A Festival put on PROBATION because it draws to large a crowd?????Now that's a first_BUT,

Burning Man Annual Festival in Black Rock City (Northern Nevada)was placed on probation for drawing too many people! The Burning Man music and arts festival attracted crowds well within the maximum cap allowed by the Bureau of Land Management this year.

The BLM placed organizers on probation and threatened to pull their license for exceeding the attendance cap at last year's festival.The offbeat fest drew daily crowds of more than 53,000 last year. A daily cap of 50,000 was allowed under terms of its special recreation permit. Here's an aerial view of the area_

ErMG!...I'm reading this book_ "The Man"!

Irving Wallace wrote this book in 1964. The Man speculatively explores the socio-political consequences in U.S. society when a Black man becomes President of the United States.It takes the Reader into the storm center of the Presidency,where the main character Dilman _until now an almost "Unknown Senator", must bear the weight of three burdens:his office,his race,and his private life!

Did Irving Wallace have a magic glass ball in 1964 to foresee the future? A difficult book to find_considered a Collectible now_but Amazon has a wide price range to chose from. A very good read,indeed!Awesome!!

ErMG!...I'm going to have to go here...an awkward moment!

I respect "Dirty Harry"_but in his "twilight years" of Wisdom_you'd thunk he should know that he'd be the fodder of this vast Universal Mass Media industry! His performance at the RNC was disturbing.

Maybe he was still in the acting mode of his new movie_Trouble with Curves_where he plays an aging baseball scout who is unable to adapt to "CHANGE"! At any rate this photo below was a viral hit to counter "Eastwooding"....

 ErMG!...There's always a trend,first it was the original "Fist Bump"_at the end of the DNC_PBS Newshour Host,Gwen Ifill & Judy Woodruff did a Fist Bump, you see it all the time by folks these days(I think it's a way of not getting germs from handshakes,a Good Thing!) and now there's this...

Mmmm_what will this be called? "The Bow Bump"???just askin'...

~The Art of Spooning & Porroning,Rated G~

Trust me this is not what it sounds like! This subject matter grew out of my ever growing curiosity about Spoons _a utensil we use on a daily basis without thought as to the origin.The idea on Porrons was a result of researching authentic traditions of Spain for my "Christmas in Spain Party 2012".So, now that we've gotten that out of the way,let's explore!

Spoons
When I started my tea business in 1994_("Let's Talk Tea")_naturally I collected many accoutrements for use in show and tell at my Tea Lectures.This photo shows only a few_some are very hard to find items.

Add to that another collection which includes:

Top: Toledo Olive Sword Picks,(1st row):Absinthe Spoon,Yerba Mate Bombilla,Nut Spoons,Demitasse Spoons.(2nd row):Honey Bomb,Honey Spoon,Grapefruit Spoon,Old Silver (18th c.) and a spoon my husband unearthed here on the Farm.

I realized that utensils have played a large part in the history of humans moving away from fingers to a little help in getting the food down!Although,there are some cultures that still display a large portion of food on a table or whatever is handy_everyone cups their fingers and dig in...guess I'd really lose weight in those cultures! No Can Do!

Some form of utensils has been around for at least 5,000 years_i.e Chopsticks! Ancient Egyptains fashioned spoons from ivory,flint,slate & wood,Greeks,Romans used bronze and silver,Medieval Spoons were made of cow horns,wood,brass or pewter,English(dated to first mention in 1259)_made of gold and silver.

In the wardrobe accounts of Edward I for the year 1300 some gold and silver spoons marked with the fleur-de-lis,the Paris mark, are mentioned.One of the most interesting medieval spoons is the coronation spoon used in the anointing of the English sovereign. The term_"Born with a Silver Spoon in his mouth"!_describes an individual who is born into a life of wealth and ease, and is perceived to not have to work for anything.
Here's a few examples of other spoons:

Lovespoon_a wooden spoon, often with double bowl, formerly carved by a Welsh suitor as a gift of betrothal for his promised bride.

Salt Spoon and Salt Cellar_used from Middle Ages to WW II

Splayds_an eating utensil combining the functions of spoon,fork,and knife.Created by William McArthur in the 1940s in Sydney,Australia.

Types of Spoons include eating,cooking and serving.To date there are 23 eating spoons (a Marrow Spoon to remove marrow from bones,WT????)_21 Cooking and Serving spoons(a Bonbon Spoon)_ and 10 listed as Ceremonial or Commemorative for functions other than ingesting comestibles(like an Ear Spoon!!!).

I had no idea what this object was when purchased at an Antique store many years ago!Finally! It is a Mexican Molinillo Spoon/Stirrer used to make Hot Chocolate! Makes sense,the Ancient Aztec of Central Mexico were known for chocolate making skills_adding a pinch of chili as they did_kicks it up a notch! YUM.

Porroning
I'm preparing for the fun we shall have at the "Spain Christmas Party 2012".We will be "porroning"!These new found vessel shall take us there...should be over the top hilarious...I know my friends!!!

These are two Vintage Porrons found on EBay & Etsy's...nice! We will fill them with Wine from Spain...Let the fun begin!

A porró, porrón, or porron is a traditional glass wine pitcher,typical of many regions of Spain like Catalonia and Aragón. It resembles a cross between a wine bottle and a watering can. The top of the bottle is narrow and can be sealed off with a cork. Stemming upwards from the bottom of the pitcher is a spout that gradually tapers off to a small opening. It is shaped such that the wine stored inside it will have minimal contact with the air, while being ready to be used at all times. The idea originated as a replacement to bota bags.

To drink from a porron, a beginner starts by bringing the spout very close to his mouth and tilts it forward slowly so the beak points towards the teeth. Once the liquid starts coming out, the porró is pulled away from the face while the drinker looks up. To finish drinking, a beginner lowers the porró and brings it back down and closer to the mouth again before stopping, quickly tilting the spout up at the last moment so there is no spillage.Everyone drinks AGAIN from the same bottle!

Let me introduce you to "The Venezuelan Poodle Moth"!Eyelashes like Gaga,Furry,Pokemon look-a-like! Seriously ,did this fella ride in on the Spacesuit above? Ladies & Gentleman this is no photo shop_as one Dr.Arthur Anker photographed this "critter" along with some of his buddies in the Gran Sabana National Park  (Venezuela). Now,we have a bunch of moths that come to our farm each year_should I ever see this one...I shall either A.Run like a bat outta Hell_B.Buy Dog food_or_C. Bear Arms(no really I couldn't hurt a fly!).Knowing my husband_he'd invite this critter in for dinner! NOT. Yes,that's "Purina Alpo Prime Cuts Dog Food" tucked in there with your basic chili and beenee weenee brands!Either it was a mistake or a sick joke! But be sure to add Tabasco_it makes everything taste better.Woof,Woof !

Pick up a can of this instead_for phone talkers while one is trying to shop...We are not interested in your phone conversations..Aisle 9...will need "A Cleanup"somebody just bought a can of...

ErMG!...EBay bans Supernatural Sales of Magic Spells,Potions,Hexes...who knew?

ErMG!..Yet,another Public Service Announcement...According to an article in Smithsonian Magazine_(it is implied by Mr.Waters)_do not use Pink Plastic Flamingos aka "pink porn" for lawn decoration!

These tchotchkes were a hit in 1957_Sculptor Don Featherson of Leominster,Mass. second assignment at Union Plastics was to sculpt a fake pink plastic bird "A Flamingo". Post WW II _these babies showed up on every lawn in America's new "Suburgatory".There was a decline when they became reaaaaallly a sign of "tackiness".But like the phoenix_they made a comeback mid-80's_holding the distinction of being in the Smithsonian Collection of Arts & Culture!

The 1972 movie "Pink Flamingo"_Directed,Produced,Written & Narrated by John Waters(whew that's a mouth full)_ had nothing to do with flamingos.He just thought the name was outrageous! However,Waters maintains  that plastic lawn flamingos should be kept inside,“like pornography,”..pink porn!

"My Remembrance of a Blue Moon"_In high school my brother sang Bass in a boys group.I sang with a girl's group_check out the video from a previous post_at a 2004 Class reunion_the original members of "The Fab-U-lous Bunchettes(1967) Ralph J Bunche High School.On that same program,I re-delivered my Salutatorian Address as I'd kept it all those years!

Now,my brother's group was practicing the most popular song at that time "Blue Moon" for an upcoming program.One evening after Dad came home from work_he's relaxing in front of the TV_Jr was practicing his singing part in his bedroom(door closed)...on & on & on_until my Dad in his very serious voice_never raising it_but_threaten Jr's LIFE if he sang that song one more time.The rest of us were hysterical with laughter,tears,couldn't breathe type laughter_finally Dad even laughed! Here's a clip of that song,so you'll understand.Remember the lead part is Bass_my brother's part!

What I didn't know at that time ..this was a racially mixed group,unheard of in the 50's & 60's!Unfortunately,after a couple trips down South on a tour_with separate BUT not equal housing,restaurants,taunts,etc _the two white guys left the group.

So now you know why my Dad threaten my brother's Life...bomb bah babomb abomb bahbomb bomb.
